I told you I was friends with pelicans, well here's a picture of me with my friend Penny... We're at Port Canaveral where the big ships come in and go out for cruises.

Don't ask me how I got out here. A bigger question is... How am I going to get home?

Good Morning Critter Pals... HH was watching the news last night and I happened to glance up at the TV and I saw my friends the pelicans covered with oil. I don't understand this. And, I just felt I needed to add my voice to protecting our environment.

I wish I could take all the pelicans (and other birds and wildlife too) to a safe place until they get this oil spill figured out, but HH said that it's gonna be a long time until it'll be fixed if they can fix it at all. So, I just want us all to remember to do what we can. This has been a warning...

The oil hasn't reached Florida yet. Our beaches are still clear, but that's not the point. Our critter pals are in trouble. Let's keep them in our good thoughts and do what we can to spread the word that we need to take care of the earth... all of it.

HH Wins Award.... How Fun!

1. What would your prefect day consist of?

The day would be 70 degrees all day long. It would start with a wonderful cup of coffee while I watch the sunrise on the beach... and finish with a nice cup of coffee while I watch the sun set over Turkey Creek. In between, I would write. That's what I do.

2. How would you describe yourself if you were an item of clothing?

Casual, comfortable and carefree.

3. What hobbies are you currently working on?

I'm working on two art quilts and doing the final quilting on a regular size quilt. Max, of course, goes nuts for all the quilts.

4. Walking in the woods in wellies or bare foot on the beach?

I'm in Florida.... alligators in the woods, so I would walk in bare feet on the beach.

5. Have you ever hugged or sung to a tree?

A tree wouldn't want me to sing to it. I do believe I've hugged one or two.

6. Growing your own veggies or nipping to the supermarket?

Supermarket.

7. Have you found anyone exciting in your family tree?

Yes, they are all exciting.

8. Slap up meal in a posh restaurant or fish ‘n’ chips from the wrapper?

Fish 'n' chips... Max's favorite, too.

9. Which element do you most resonate with, Earth, Air, Fire or water?

Earth

10. Do you believe in fairies?

Of course...

Max's Mystery Novel - Episode 7

Update: At the end of Episode 6, I had heard scary noises on the first floor while HH was out. When she returned home, I paced until she took the hint and opened the door to the first floor of Writer's Creative Studio.

Like a shot, I ran down the stairs, across the room and skidded to a halt in a puddle of blood. Now here's Episode 7 in my own words...

Fred's body was only an inch from me. And, yikes! I was standing in a puddle of his blood. Fred wasn't supposed to be on our floor. I couldn't make sense of it and I couldn't move.

Before I had time to even shake my head, HH scooped me up and held me at arm's length while she slowly skirted around Fred's body and backed into the laundry. She deposited me into the sink and told me to "Stay!"

Now, I'm not intentionally naughty, but "Stay" isn't something I'm usually very good at. In this case, however, I thought it was not the time to let curiosity get the best of me.

I watched as HH pulled her cell phone from her hip pocket. She called 911 first, and then she called her new friends Ben and Phyllis.

Ben and Phyllis arrived at the same time as Sheriff Johnson. After HH scrubbed my feet, she wrapped me in a towel and let Phyllis lead us outside. I must tell you, I wasn't too happy being relegated to the outside with the girls while the men (Ben and Sheriff Johnson) were inside investigating. I just knew I should be inside pointing out important evidence.

I squirmed in HH's arms to test out her feelings about the possibility of loosening her iron grip on me. "Settle down, Max. You've been brave enough for one day," she said to me.

"Why don't you let me take him over to my house?" Phyllis asked.

"Good idea," HH said. "I'll get his carrier.

"No.........!" I screamed in one long meooooooooow.

HH pretended that she didn't understand me, but I know she understood just fine, but I knew there would be no persuading her. So when she stood up, I grabbed the opportunity to jump from her arms and spring through the cat door.

Soon enough, four adults were trying to chase me down. I thought I had eluded them all and would get my chance to show Sheriff Johnson a thing or two about the crime scene when..... Ohhhhhhh Noooooooo....! HH was just too sneaky. Ben chased me from behind and when I looked behind me to see how close he was, HH put my open cat carrier directly in my path.

An old trick and I'm ashamed to say I fell for it. OMC -- not the role of hero I intended to play. Humiliated and frustrated, I accepted my fate... for the moment anyway...

Shuttle Atlantis launched yesterday for the last time. HH took some pictures from the condo. The county was mobbed, so we didn't go closer this time, but thought you might like to see the pics. I didn't go on this trip....

Max on ... odds and ends

Good Morning Critter Pals....

I thought I'd take this morning to catch up on some odds and ends...

First of all, thanks for all the great comments yesterday about Mousey's clothing. Don't know what that outfit was all about, but you came up with some good ideas. I particularly thought Shawnee might be on the right track, thinking that Mousey was dressed and off to Woodstock.

Next, a couple of you have asked about my mystery novel. I'm going to write an episode for you this weekend and will post it on Monday. Thanks for asking.

Next, HH is looking around for a charity to donate part of the proceeds from her book and since the next book out will be the one about me, she wants it to be a charity about cats and dogs. Let me know if you have suggestions for her.

I'm not vain.... I swear I'm not. In fact, I hardly ever think about my looks. After all, it's what's inside that counts....

....But.... HH went down to see Susan at the Art Gallery and Studio in downtown Melbourne this morning. Susan said the picture she painted of me was hanging on the wall in the Gallery.... Critter pals.... OMC... I am so honored... I mean, imagine, me on the wall of a gallery.

Now, it's not because I think I'm pretty or handsome or any of those fancy-schmancy words. It's just that it really touched me that she wanted to hang me on the wall. Wow...

Are you my mommy?

Many of us don't know our birth mothers. Me included... that's just the way it is in the catosphere. HH is my mother now and I hope for you a mother as true to you as she is to me.

Also... there are so many female critters -- dogs, cats, bunnies, and even hampsters -- who are important to us. So, whether we call them "Mom" or not, it's always good this time of year to wish them a Happy Day and to thank them for all they bring into our lives, so.......

Great Trip to the Moon Yesterday.... have a look!

If you haven't heard, I took some of the kitties to the moon yesterday on my quiltship. @ShivaandJaya knew I lived near Cape Canaveral, so they asked me to take them to the moon. The shuttles were all busy, so I took them on my quiltship. We all had a great time and are sorry you all didn't come with us.

So you can see a little of the trip, I have compiled the pictures from our space travel... Enjoy!!!

Hi Critter pals. I'm taking @ShivaandJaya, @TinyPearlCat and @OMalleyAlleyCat to the Moon at Noon. The shuttles are all tied up, so we're going to blast off on the quiltship. It'll be an exciting flight and we are going to do a spacewalk. too!!!

Max on... windows

I love windows and if you open them, I love them even more. I remember this picture well. It was taken before we moved to Florida. The windows at this house were on the ground floor. Unlike the windows in the condo, I could see right out and almost touch the grass.

Now the windows in the condo do offer one advantage. They are about eye-level with the electrical wires and the birds park there during the seasons when they are either flying north or flying south. At those times, my window turns into a TV. I can sit there for hours and just watch the birds.

I think it's important to enjoy nature. One day some Sand Hill Cranes walked through the parking lot. I told HH that I should go out and greet them in person, but she disagreed. Now they have had babies.... and The Great Noodles' food human calls them dinosaurs... And she's right they do look pre-historic.

Anyway, that's my take on life, windows and nature for today. Now, I'm off to take a nap... in the window, of course. Have a great day.

Max on...Fur

Wow.... I just found out why we are so soft. It started with a book I'm reading for my next book review... the title is The Cat Who had 60 Whiskers. A cat having 60 whiskers started me wondering about how much fur we have.

Well kitty pals, I searched the web and the answer is that we have 60,000 hairs per square inch on our backs and double that on our fronts. My guess is that we have fewer hairs on our backs because people pet our backs most and we shed.

Anyway.... no wonder we can go outside in winter and not get cold, and no wonder we make such wonderful puddles of fur when we are shedding...

So there, now you have some great information to pass on during the next paw pawty.
