Max on.... exercise (or is it a toy?)

This morning as I was surfing the web, I came across this intriguing contraption...

I think it's a kitty gym and a toy all wrapped up in one. I found it on Amazon.com and it says it's by Kitty Paw Print. I don't have a credit card... HH won't let me make independent purchases on the web... so I wasn't able to buy one. Therefore, I can't give you first-hand info on how good it is, but it looks interesting to me.

Does anyone have one of these? I'm not sure I'm coordinated enough to use it, but throw in a little nip and I'll try anything once. Here's the description of it. Let me know if you have one and how you like it.

Paw Print Slanted Scratching Board with Gym
A complete kitty exercise system that includes sisal balls to bat around, a carpeted slant board for scratching, and sisal limbs to attack. Designed to satisfy your cat's natural desire to claw. A necessity for a home with a cat or cats with claws. Retards them from marring furniture and other valued possessions. This product creates a stimulus for exercise and recreation. Helps to relive boredom as well. Minor assembly required. Approximately 12" x 19" x 23" high.

Max on... it was a good game, but...

Well, woe is me.... I watched the USA play their last World Cup game yesterday. I must say it was a good game and for most of it I was beside myself. In fact, I was so beside myself, I didn't recognize myself.

I was alternating between cheering wildly, biting nails, crossing toes, paws and eyes, and collapsing in exhaustion. Both teams played well and we only lost by one point. I was surprised how excited I got over the game. Why? I don't know for sure, but I think it has something to do with those horns.

I think those horns convey some subliminal message to cheer louder, to care more, and to be loyal to your team. Not bad traits to have.

Sorry USA lost, but this kitty enjoyed the experience.

Time to get back to business, but first, I'll watch one more game and cheer for England today in honor of my Critter pals who live there.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooal!!!!

In or Out?

I know there are pros and cons to in or out ( indoors only or outdoors only), so I decided to ask you guys....

Are you indoors only, outdoors only, or both an indoors and outdoors pet? If you are both, do you come and go at will through a pet door, or do you have to wait to go out with your food human?

My whole life, except for the alley cat period just after my birth, was indoors. The vet told HH that she should not let me go outside.

I must say that I didn't regret his advice to her, because I didn't must like the outdoors. Even when HH would carry me outside and not let me down, I didn't like the wind hitting my ears. I don't think that makes me a sissy or anything. I"m just not the romping in the grass type.

How about you? Tell me about your preferences....

My Portrait Arrived

Well Critter Pals:

I know I've talked about my portrait before, but I didn't see it in person until this week. Susan Kessler painted it a while back and it's been hanging in The Art Gallery and Studio for over a month.

On Thursday, Susan brought it to HH and it's now hanging in the living room. I'm so excited.

Anyway, just wanted to take this opportunity to say "Thanks" to Susan and to send her all manner of cyber-nosetaps!!!

Be sure to stop by to see Susan's paintings at her website, too... http://www.susanswatercolorart.com

Oh.... and Happy Father's Day to all.

What do you love?

Good Morning Critter Pals....

Just found this picture of me with one of my favorite objects. This is my blue tennis shoe. I love it because the blue matches my eyes, and I love it because the rubber smells so good. When it was new, I used to bury my nose right down into it.

What do you love? And, why?

Have a great weekend.

Max's Mystery Novel - Episode 8

When we last left Max's Mystery Novel (my mystery novel), I had just run into the cat carrier by mistake. Fred had been murdered in Writer's Creative Studio (HH's business), and they had hauled poor Fred off.

I was trying to get the attention of Sheriff Johnson. I had important information to impart about Fred's murder, but with only the one word ("meow") in my human vocabulary, nobody was listening to me.

So, they took me to Ben and Phyllis' house and put me in the laundry room.

Imagine the indignity of it all --
EGAD!!!...putting me in one little room as if I would not know to use the litter when needed.... Well I was fit to be tied.

But, I'm not one to hold a grudge. After HH, Ben and Phyllis returned from talking to Sheriff Johnson, they did let me out of that room. I had settled down a bit by then, and I quietly followed HH into the living room where she sat and talked with Ben and Phyll while I napped on her lap.

(Hey-what's a guy to do.... I knew I had to wait until we returned to Writer's Creative Studio before I could take any action... I did overhear Ben say that we could return to the apartment the next day after the sheriff was finished. So why sweat it. I'd have my chance.)

The following afternoon, HH finally brought the cat carrier into the kitchen and for once I didn't resist getting into it -- I knew we were going home.

When we walked in the back door to the apartment, luck was with me -- someone had left the door open to the downstairs. I looked over my shoulder to make sure HH was watching me and I dashed down the stairs as quick as I could.

"Max.... no, no no! Come here pal. We're not supposed to be down there, yet. ...." I heard from behind me, then I heard HH's footsteps as she followed me down the stairs.

When she was within a couple yards of me. I jumped on her desk and put my right front paw up on Fred's folder.

You see, it was askew on her desk, and, being the observant sleuth that I am, I remembered that the folder had been straight on the pile of work before the murder. Keen eye for clues, right? Yep... I knew I was right in concluding that the murderer had been after something in that folder. Now, it was up to me to lead HH to that clue and that same conclusion.

HH approached and picked me up without looking at the pile of files under me.

I resisted and she lost her grip. Quickly, I dropped to the floor and jumped up on the far end of the desk and skidded to a stop with my rear foot held in just the right position to flip open Fred's folder. Ta-Da!!

HH headed for me again, then looked at the open folder. "Max," she said, "Fred's pictures are missing! Is that what you were trying to tell me?"

If I could have grinned at her, I would have. As it was, I was exhausted from the whole experience. She had her clue. My work... for the moment... was done... ...........until... (well, I'll save that for next time...)

From the Desk of Max...Happy Caturday!!

Good Morning Critter Pals!
Happy Caturday to you.

Many times I take the weekends to just lounge around. Today, up and roaring early. HH got up at 5:00 am today and took a shower and was out the door by 5:30. She was off to the ocean for sunrise. It wasn't a spectacular one, but the sun coming up each day is a good thing.

Her enthusiasm this morning -- even though she didn't take me with her -- gave me inspiration to do more than seek out the nearest sun puddle for the day. So, I'm sorting all my books and papers and am getting ready to write another episode of my mystery story...

For now, I just want to say.... have a great weekend. Do what inspires you to greatness... or take a nap.... both are beneficial.

Max loves ya!

Max on... being an "only" pet

I'm an "only" pet. No brother kitties... no sister kitties ... no puppies, turtles or birds... just good ol' HH and me.

Before HH took me to her house to be my forever home, I did live a short while with a lady who had a couple of dogs, a couple of birds and maybe another cat and me. That was so long ago, I barely remember the particulars, but HH tells me that they convinced her to take me because I didn't like the competition much because the dogs kept eating my food.... Can you imagine that?

So, anyway... I've been an "only" pet for as long as I can remember and at times that status has led me to believe that I wasn't a cat at all. For a while, I went through a period of acting like a puppy. For example, when someone would ring the doorbell, I'd gallop to the door to greet them. And, if invited in, I'd welcome them thoroughly by sitting right in front of them and listening to every word they said.

As a cat I know that this is aberrant behavior, but HH thought it was cute. So, an advantage of being an "only" pet is that you can be whatever you want to be (except naughty) without ridicule from others.

So, my question: What are you... an "only" pet or a pet from a "multi-pet" household?

And, what's the biggest advantage of your situation and what's the biggest drawback

Max on ... catching up

Good morning Critter Pals..... Thanks to all of you who left those great comments about yesterday's picture... and yes, you are all invited to join me in my sun puddle any time you want. I do love my sun puddles and that one was a great one.

So today is set aside for catching up. It's starting to get really hot here now... It's supposed to be in the 90s all week. People are hunkering down as if it's winter. That's how we do it in the South. During the summer, we stay in all the time just like they do in the North in the winter. Anyway, I'm, of course, shedding up a storm again, but I'm used to that as well.

From my air conditioned perch on the porch of our third floor condo, I watch the birds while HH is busy doing another deep cleaning of the condo. I mean boxes everywhere.

Normally, I'm more than happy to jump in and out of them with the intent of disrupting the cleaning. But, today, there's a new intensity to HH's concentration, so I'll just stay in my spot watching the world outside get hotter and hotter and wag my tail occasionally to help dust my part of the condo.

The good news.... I mean big news is that HH was sorting through the quilting fabric last night.... I think there might be a new quilt in our future.... And, that makes me really happy.

Have a great day!
