Santa's Helper for the Humane Society of South Brevard

Good Morning Pals.....

Yes, I'm playing Santa's Helper today. Sometimes I blog about animals needing homes on Tuesdays, but today I want to make it even easier for you to help.  Many of you already have animals and can't take in any more. I know HH is at capacity over here with the boys in a condo.

Anyway... I know that at Christmas HH always wants to do a little more.  Well, I don't know how things work at your shelter but at the Humane Society of South Brevard they always welcome tangible donations as well as the green kind.  Here are some of the things they have on their list...

Dry dog and cat food
Small bites dry dog food
Canned cat food
Paper towels
Liquid laundry detergent
Plain Peanuts
Wild Bird Seed
Any kind of cleaning supplies

If you're in the area, the Humane Society of South Brevard is located at 2600 Otter Creek Lane in Melbourne Florida... it's just north of the Pineda Causeway off US 1... or go to their website to find out information on how you can help.

If you're not in the area, you can always drop a little something off at the shelter closest to you.

Have a great day.... Happy Tuna Tuesday everybuddy!!!

Max on.... Monday "Bugsy and the Turkey"

Well.... The other day, Bugsy and I had a long talk about this Turkey issue. I guess he blogged to you about it too. He didn't understand why some of you had Turkey and he didn't.  He was feeling better when I explained that HH didn't cook one because she went to friends for Thanksgiving and that he could have some whenever she did cook one....

The Great Noodles spies the turkey on his counter...
At least he was feeling some better until his pal The Great Noodles sent him this picture of his own reaction to seeing their Turkey cooling on the counter.... Now if that isn't a look of surprise and longing, I don't know what is...

Hee Hee... Bugsy is sure counting the days until HH cooks her turkey.

PeeS:  It's Cyber Monday.... HH has a special going on for her greeting cards... Check it out... HH's Etsy Shop

Bugsy on... turkey and other Thanksgiving traditions

I was having a discussion with Max last night and he agreed to let me blog today.  You see, I don't completely understand this Thanksgiving thing and am looking for a little clarification here. So feel free to explain things to me if you have an answer.

Now, I do understand the thankful part of Thanksgiving, and believe me, I am plenty thankful for HH taking us in and for this wonderful life we now have.

However, I don't so much understand the TURKEY part of  Thanksgiving. As I was cruising through the blogosphere on Thanksgiving, and even yesterday, various kitties mentioned, with great delight, that they were stuffed with turkey or that they were "in a turkey coma" or some such thing to make it sound as if TURKEY was a big part of their Thanksgiving.

Every time I read this, I ran to our oven....nothing in there.  HH opened the refrigerator door... no big bird in there either.  So, do just certain houses get TURKEY or what?  Let me know, okay?

Other than that, we had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Have a super day!

Let the Holiday Season Begin!!!

While HH was over at Uncle Mike's and Aunt Toni's for Thanksgiving dinner, Bugsy, Knuckles and I decorated for Christmas to surprise her. The result is our wonderful new header and our Christmas card.  (Thanks to Ann of Zoolatry for both of those. We love them.)

So without further ado.... let the holiday season begin!!!!!

And Remember.... Max loves ya!!!!

Max on ... back to normal

Good Morning Pals.... Things are finally settling down here after the weekend of HH and Flat Max being gone for most of the time. Yesterday was a day to catch up on errands, so the boys stayed home and played.  Today, things are back to normal...  Or as normal as they get around here with a houseful of cat toys and toy guys who think they are still kittens.

I thought I'd pause today to introduce you to Peyton... She's at the Humane Society of South Brevard and is a Tuxedo Cat.  Very pretty and very loving. If you know someone who would want a good companion, Peyton is your girl.  Read about her here.

Welcome to Peyton Place, but without all the drama! My name is Peyton, and I know we almost always say that everybody here is sweet-but you can take this one to the bank. I really am a love, so patient waiting for attention and so happy just to have you look my way. I arrived here preggers and my kittens are real angels too...but I am ready to find a family who will take care of me now. I just know I could fit in almost anywhere, so if you have a place in your heart for me, drama-free Peyton, please stop by. I am available for introductions seven days a week from noon to 4pm, except on Sundays when we close at 3pm. Or you can call

...and now a word from Flat Max... your roving reporter

I know that it's Easy Like Sunday back there at the condo and I'm sure the boys are curled up in their favorite spots for a good day of snoozing.... but.... No snoozing for me today!!!  I'm working the room down here at the Meet the Authors Book Fair in the Eau Gallie Arts District of Melbourne, Florida.

Yesterday was the first day of the fair and HH and I did quite well.  Sold a few books and  some of the new line of greeting cards as well.  All-in-all a wonderful day.  And the best part is I met some nice people... like this chap. His name is Milford and he belongs to a lady who has a storytelling business.  He carried away a postcard about Max's book in his mouth. I do admire the versatility of that action, since I have no mouth action at all here.

Milford and Max... at the book fair... (HH took this picture with her phone... thus the funky quality)

Anyway, the book fair is going on all day today too in the Civic Center and of course the wonderful artists are outside in the street showing their talents.  That's it for this special report from the field.  Have a great Easy Like Sunday everybuddy... and if you're in the area stop by and see us today.  We'll be at the book fair all day.

Yours in Flatness,

What are you doing with your weekend?

Oh... and did you see this card. It's the latest in our line of greeting cards.  Hope you like it. We now have three cards....

Have a great day and don't forget to leave a comment to be entered in the Pawmetto giveaway.

Enjoy, Pals!!!

Thankful Thursday - Who wants some treats?

New shoes for HH means a new office for Knuckles... (excuse his big eyes... the flashy thing got him)
Good morning, pals.

It's Thankful Thursday.... The boys are a little more concrete than most and are thankful for their new treats. Don't forget about the Pawmetto giveaway.  You could win some yummy treats too. Leave a comment anytime all week and you'll be entered for the drawing on Sunday night.

HH has been busy this morning making a new Flat Max. As you remember, Toni still has the previous one. Because he went to Niagra Falls, he has this poka-dot motif going on. Anyway, it's time for the Annual Meet the Authors Book Fair and HH is taking the Zen of Max and her book on Twitter to it.We have our paws crossed that she'll sell a lot of books. She says it doesn't matter, because she just has a good time at the event anyway... Ha! Humans...!! She should tell it like it is.  She would like to sell a TON of books... a GAZILLION books.  Right?  Yep, you know I'm right.

Anyway, gotta go help her put the new Flat Max together so he can go to the book fair on Saturday and Sunday.

Have a great day and just a reminder, we're thankful for all you great pals out there on Thankful Thursday too.

The Boys : Their Sponsor Cat : Robert

Big excitement over here everyone.... The boys received information about the cat they are sponsoring at the Humane Society of South Brevard.  And guess who it is... It's Robert their spokescat for the sponsor program.  Here's the picture I showed you before of him.

And here's the back view of him. As you can see, he's a Manx.

And here's a picture of him dancing on the hearth.

And here's is the side view. HH is going to go out there soon and take some pictures of him for our very own. These are the pictures the wonderful Sharon Barry sent us. She's the manager out there.

She also sent us a letter that tells us a little about Robert.  Here's some of what it says...

Robert is 8 years old and came to them when he was around 9 months old in March of 2003. He had been thrown out of a moving car and a horrified witness was able to get to him and brought him to the Humane Society. ... Robert pretty much thinks he's "King of the Walk" at the Humane Society.

People often see him and fall in love, but Robert is of the stubborn kind and when he decides that he wants to relieve himself , he does so wherever he chooses. (That's probably why he hasn't been adopted.) However, they say that Robert is so comfortable at the shelter that they believe he knows that it is his Forever Home, and he seems quite happy with that.

Robert is very affectionate and loves to be petted. He is most comfortable sitting on someone's lap. The shelter says that they..."absolutely adore our Robert and hope that you will love him as well."  Of course the boys have fallen in love with him already.

So, we'll keep you posted about how Robert's doing as time goes along. Bugsy and Knuckles just want to thank all of you who participated in the comment-a-thon because you helped them earn the money to sponsor Robert.

So, thanks to all of you...

More on Robert in the near future.

Also.... don't forget that your comments today enter you in the Pawmetto treat giveaway...

Max on... A giveaway.... Pawmetto treats.

The boys have completed their first taste test and review and think taste testing is a great activity.

The people at Pawmetto asked me if Bugsy and Knuckles might like to try their treats. Since I know first hand that the boys are picky about what they eat, I thought they would be perfect for the job. They won't give out a good review just because someone gives them free treats. They would walk away if they didn't like them.

Well, HH opened the box and here's what happened.

The boys were curious when HH put the box on the floor.

They inspected the packaging and decided that it was very nice. The bags are re-sealable. That's a plus.

The treats were a little large at first, but once they figured it out... Bugsy loved them.

Knuckles didn't stop eating his to give a comment.

After their treats the boys paused to go over their notes.

The conclusion: The boys give the treats eight (yes, that's 8)paws up... four for each of them.

And HH likes them too... not to eat... they are not for humans, but she likes that they are good for cats and for dogs. And they come in three flavors: Lamb Liver Treats, Beef Liver Treats, and Chicken Liver Treats. They are all freeze dried liver.

There you have the boys' first review.... A resounding success... And We're having a giveaway. Someone who leaves a comment this week will receive a prize from Pawmetto... So... don't forget to comment to enter. The giveaway ends on Sunday at midnight.

I also saw this information on their website and thought you might find it interesting.

Their mottois: Pawmettoloves pets. Pawmetto loves people.

And this is what they say about that...

To us, lovemeans that your pets health is as important as your own. We are a family runcompany that loves our pets, and want them to live healthy happy lives (yes, weare the same Pawmetto that made treats for your dog that won awards in humanfood competitions). After many successful years in the pet treat business, werealized our products didn’t align closely enough with our core beliefs and wehad no choice but to change. Although it was not easy to abandon a successfulbrand, our love for pets and people is far more important than doing what iseasy.

We believe the raw diet is the best choice for our pets. A raw diet providespets the optimal nutrition they need without the fillers, grains and otheringredients that are often deemed, "tasty treats” but can be harmful toyour pets health. This is why our Pawmetto Pet Treats and Toppers are sourcedfrom 100% all-natural raw USDA inspected meats.

Have a great day, pals...

Don't forget that today is the WorldWide Moment. For us... Florida.... it's at 6:00pm...

We never figured out why, but my fur always stood up down the middle of my back. It was very soft, but it was always at attention... even, like in this picture, when I was trying to get my easy on.

Hope you have a great Easy Like Sunday, Pals.

A Veteran's Day Tribute...

Flat Max ready to honor Sgt Michael D. Sweeney II
Today is Veteran's Day and what better way to spend it than honoring a veteran that I know. Flat Max just went on a trip with Toni and Mike to see their son  Sgt. Michael D. Sweeney II retire after 20 years in the US Army.
Here are the wonderful pictures of Flat Max and Michael at the retirement festivities.

Here I am with my friend Michael.  I love his uniform.

From the Sweeney family, three generations have now retired from military service.

They are:

MSgt Alvin D Sweeney,  US Air Force, retired  (1963 I think, I’ll ask for sure) (originally joined the Army, but when the Air Force came into being, transferred to that branch.)

MSgt Michael D Sweeney, US Air Force, retired 1995

Sgt Michael D Sweeney II, US Army, retired (11/14/11 officially)

Here we are by the sign telling about his area.

Here we are in a picture with Michael in his other army clothes.

Oh...Oh... look where I am.  Hope they don't forget me and leave me in this wreath.

Isn't this a wonderful picture of Michael with his father, Mike.

.... You know how I love quilts.... well, here is a pic of Sgt Michael D Sweeney II and his mother Vickie Lilly who made this quilt for him as  a tribute to his 20 years in the US Army. It is so beautiful that I might hesitate to sit on it. Beautiful !!!

To Michael... I want to say, "Thank you so much for sharing your day with Flat Max... and... Thanks for your years of service. We are all very proud of you..."

Max, Bugsy, Knuckles and Lou

So, Michael.... Thanks for your service. We are very proud of you.

We're participating in Mayzie's Rescue Me Week in memory of Grampa J who recently went to the Rainbow Bridge. He left many green papers and Mayzie has decided to use some of them to help shelters. What a wonderful thing.

So, today in honor of Grampa J. we are blogging about

Isn't he cute?  He's a Domestic Medium Hair-Black And White Mix: An adoptable cat in Melbourne, FL from the Humane Society of South Brevard.

Here's a little about Klancy in his own words:

One, two, three times as cute! Hi there, I am Klancy, one of three adorable  kittens who were born in January. Along with my brother Kane and sister, Karina, you really have never seen such cute little sweethearts. We are out roaming with all the other cats here at the cat house and doing just fine. Take a look at my second photo-that is me with my best friend Tommy! I get along with everyone-feline and human-and would do super with my siblings and in a family with other friendly cats already in residence! Since we have been here really our entire lives, we know we are healthy and happy and just about as well rounded a trio of kittens could possibly be! I know you can read on the petfinder pages about lots of great looking cats and kittens, but I really want to tell you-when it comes to good looks, we've been told we are truly irresistible. Please call and ask about us , or stop by and meet us, noon to 4PM seven days a week (3pm on Sundays). 321-259-0601.

Please stop by Mayzie's Blog to read all about Rescue Me Week.

Thanks and please spread the word about Klancy.

Max on.... Monday

Hi Pals, it's time to catch up on this and that...

First of all... HH found this picture of me she didn't know she had, so she did a little work on it, et voila! (Hee hee, didn't know I knew French did ya?  Always full of surprises!)

Next, HH is doing the National Novel Writing Month Challenge again. Last year you might remember, I tried it myself, but HH lost the flash drive with the novel on it that I was writing.  I don't mention that to make her feel bad once again. Just saying, that's what happened.  This year is going much better. If you remember, you're supposed to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November. Today is the 6th day and I'm happy to say HH has over 20,000 words so far. So, she's off to a good start.

HH sent in the $60+ for the boys to sponsor a kitty at the Humane Society of South Brevard as a result of the Comment-a-thon last week.  We haven't heard yet from them about who we are sponsoring etc. We'll keep you posted on that.

The weather has turned a little cooler down here. We're finally having the beginning of our fall.

Hope you all had a great weekend.

Max on.... Urgent need to find Duba a home.

HH received the email below from a friend of hers and she passed it on to me.  Please spread the word about this sweet dog.  It's in central Florida near where the boys and I live.  We need your help to get the word out.  Duba deserves a good home.

Subject: DUBA

ID 559774
Duba is a 2 year old female Shepherd Husky mix who came into the shelter as a confiscation because of cruelty. She was abandoned in a house with her friends 2 cats. The owner would come by periodically to give food and water-- this could be as long as 10 days apart.

Duba is a sweet little girl. At 39lbs, she is heart worm negative. She does great with other dogs, meets all with a wagging tail and gets along with cats.

The shelter is overcrowded and all need rescue help. If you can help this little girl please contact the shelter immediately.

Rescue Coordinator
Brevard Animal Services

Thanks to all of you for helping get the word out.  Urgent need...  And Remember... Max Loves Ya!!

B and K Pawprints.... OMC

Hi guys.... The boys are excited... way too excited to write the blog post today.  HH has designed 3 greeting cards for them...Yup... they are starting their own line of cards and HH is going to put all of them in her ETSY shop.

The gray border is just for presentation. It's not part of the card.

HH wanted to wait to introduce them to you until all the cards were back from the printer, but the boys are bugging her so much, she decided to let you have a peek at the first of the three cards.

Actually, you've seen the photo she used for this card before.  That's how she got the inspiration to turn it into a greeting card. Hope you enjoy looking at it.  HH's ETSY shop is here in case you know anyone who might want to see the work she does.

That said.... it's time for the weekend.  Can't wait to see what this weekend is going to bring. Last weekend was so busy getting ready for the Comment-a-thon that I'm kinda hoping we have a nice quiet weekend with lots of naps this week.

Hope you have some fun things planned.... Happy Friday...

Flat Max goes to Niagra Falls

Wow..... Flat Max has returned to Florida. He had a gigantically wonderful time with Toni and Mike. Here are some pictures of the last day of his trip.

The big event is that we went to Niagra Falls.... Luckily, Mike held tight to me so I didn't fall in, but I did get some unsightly spots on me from the mist. Everybuddy has told me that the spots look okay. HEE HEE. Wow... we had a great time seeing the falls.... Big and powerful!!!

After the falls, I sat in the garden for a few minutes to let my paper furs dry... I met a new friend there. He was not as afraid of the flat version of me as he would be a real cat. He was very nice and he was friendly too. He told me many things about the local cats....

There were decisions to make all over the place. We were very close to Canada. I had to think long and hard whether we should visit all of you pals in Canada...

Finally, we opted to stay in the USA this time. Maybe next time.

Anyway, we had a great trip. Many asked about the snow of last weekend. We were very lucky and didn't see any snow at all... Can you believe that???

I just want to take a minute to tell Toni and Mike how much I enjoyed going on the trip with them. It was wooooooooohoooooooo great!!!!!

Oops! I almost forgot. Here's another new friend of mine. He reminded me of Bugsy cuz he wanted to have his picture taken up close and personal.

Have a great day, pals...
