Cat Tales... a special poem

Today, I have a special poem to share with you. Recently, HH was contacted by Jean... She had read The Zen of Max and had passed it along to her mother, Ella Working, to read. Her mother saw some similarities between Max and Nagi, Jean's cat. Consequentlyt, she was inspired to write this poem, and it's so wonderful that HH asked for permission to post it here for you to enjoy.

Cat Tales
About Nagi (Nah-Gee)
After reading The Zen of Max by Lou Belcher

Jean has a cat so much like Max they’d almost fit each other’s tracks.
Nagi’s a tuxedo cat, sometimes baby, sometimes brat!
Nights he snuggles up to her ‘til her face is full of fur.
Where she goes, he follows through – office, kitchen, bathroom, too.
When she works he knows just when she’s expected home again.
Patiently he waits to meet her; wants to be the first to greet her.
It is clear that he adores her, nothing he does ever bores her.
Mornings when it suits him best, in a sunny spot he’ll rest;
Purring softly while he’s sunning, like he left his motor running.
Understands a lot we say – “No” and “Don’t he will obey
(Well – most times anyway)
Makes us understand his wishes, which food he wants in his dishes.
Nudges open cupboard doors; scatters crumbs upon the floors.
When we eat, he wants a bite; begs until we say “All Right!”
Often he doesn’t eat it, but next meal he will repeat it.
When he hears the ice cubes rattle, right away that silly cat’ll
Come, look up wistfully “Won’t you drop a cube for me?”
Any time that he is able to have access to a table,
He proceeds to make it neat; pushing stuff off with his feet.
Let us have a vase of roses; that’s just where his pesky nose is.
Nibbling petals just a bit ‘til we put a stop to it.
Ears or whiskers itch a bit? Here’s how he takes care of it;
Knocks a book off of the shelf, uses it to scratch himself.
If offended, Nagi pouts; lets us know we’re “on the outs”.
If he’s rowdy, he’ll scratch or bite, but he seldom wants to fight.
Most times when a stranger comes, first he growls and then he runs
To his refuge 'neath the bed; sometimes comes back out instead.
Then the rascal always beelines to someone who dislikes felines.
Isn’t that what all cats do? Jean must come to the rescue!
When I sit me down to rest he may meow a clear request.
Then if I will only let him he jumps up for me to pet him –
Tromps across my lap, and then, turns around and tromps again;
Plops him down when he is ready, then I pet him slow and steady.
While he lies in “purrfect” peace, I can’t help but be at ease.
It’s so nice for him and me – “Cat-o-lap-tic therapy”.
Yes, Jean has a friend with fur – seems to me that he has her!

Okay pals... It's seems to be a big day today. There's a wedding and celebration in England and the shuttle is taking off right here in Florida. As you know, I'm still on call for that, but today's blog has to be about a sweet little kitty who urgently needs a home.



Brian at Brian's Home in Greenville, SC, put up the urgent call yesterday... it seems that cute little Precious is on a countdown. A home must be found. So I'm urging you to go to Brian's Home to read the whole story and .... please spread the word. You never know when someone might know someone who has a home for Precious... Max on... Shuttle Launch

Good Morning... You might think that I'm dressed up for Halloween, but it's not so. I am on standby for the shuttle launch tomorrow. I am suited and ready if they need me.

It's an exciting time down here in Florida, pals. The president and his family are coming tomorrow, and the reporters are predicting that there will be 750,000+ people coming into the area for the launch. That might make driving a little tricky, but I don't drive, so it won't bother me.

Now, all we need is great weather and clear skies. I'll report back after it's over... Hopefully, I'll be on my way to the space station....

Today, I'm featuring Delilah from the SPCA of North Brevard. She's very cute, but shehas had some placement problems in the past. She just wants another chance. Read her story below and decide for yourself. She could use your help in finding a home in Florida.

Here's Delilah's story in her own words...

My name is Delilah, and yes I do know how beautiful I am :) Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I was born in May 2010, and adopted in October, but I was returned in November because the owner said I was going potty all over the house. (I never did that before I was adopted.) They did have a VERY rambunctious child and the girls here think I was terrified and acted out the only way I know how. I was adopted a second time, and within two weeks I was brought back for the same reason :(

So now I've been back a while, and the girls think I have my issue worked out, so come give me a chance :)!!! Love, Delilah

Easy Like Easter Sunday

S...T...R...E...T...C...H

This is Knuckles' favorite position. We call it the "stretch." When HH comes in the door, Knuckles runs to the hallway and flops, then s...t...r...e...t...c...h...e...s. For this picture, he was on his side. Most often, he's on his back with optimum tummy exposure for scratching.

I think the boy is feeling super comfortable and trusting in his new home... When I was his age, I was always curled into a ball... Never exposed my tummy to anybody. Now, some kitties do this maneuver to lure in their prey. Then when a bean goes to rub their tummy, they curl up and grab their hand. You know what I mean. Not so with Knuckles. What you see is what you get. It's purely a "Scratch my tummy," move... HEE HEE...

Well, just thought it was a cute picture. Besides that, I just wanted to tell you to have a nice holiday tomorrow. Time to go help E. Bunny paint the eggs.

The Boys are Watching for the Bunny...

Knuckles cracks me up. He seems to prefer to be under things. One of his favorite spots is on the couch, burrowing between the pillows. I guess it might be because he matches the couch. Who knows? But he lunges to get to just the right spot.

The boys are excited that Easter is coming up. They heard something about hiding eggs and a bunny coming to the house. I think they are delusional, but I'll hold off judgment. For all my years, I never saw a bunny in the condo. We'll see if that actually happens.

What do you think? Here's a picture of me with the stuffed rabbit I used to favor. Real rabbits..? Never saw one.

Hey guys and gals!

My name is Lumpy... funny name I know, but what am I supposed to do about it? I am a male Border Collie mix who was born on April 17th, 2010. I was brought to the SPCA along with my brother, Whoobus, after another shelter ran out of room for us. I am a very loving boy, but I am also very active. If you need a running partner, then I am your guy! I love people of all ages, and I like some dogs. I will definitely have to meet any of your four-legged family members before I can go home. I am partially housebroken, but I am working on it! Please come in and take a look at me... you won't be disappointed. ..... Love, Lumpy

Monday, Monday -- No Catnip Necessary

After all those Easy Like Sunday naps, the boys are up and playing this morning. In fact, they woke HH up around 4:30 am.... a little early, but she's used to it by now.

Bugsy wants me to show you his new toy. If you look real close, you can see that his (the toy's) pants have elastic in the front. It comes with little catnip sachets and you pull out the band on his pants and stick a sachet in there.

Now, HH didn't do that for Bugsy. She gave him the toy with empty pants for two reasons... First, she can't remember how old kitties need to be before you give them catnip; and second, the boys seems to be jet propelled as it is and maybe catnip would push them or HH over the edge. HEE HEE..

Anyway, anybody have expertise on catnip out there. It's been a long time since HH has had a young one....

I'm happy to report.... Lawrence from two weeks ago has a forever home. I love going back to the shelter site and seeing that the kitties needing forever homes have been adopted. Me? Clumsy? Ha!

Hi Pals... This has been a busy week for HH. So, I haven't been on line much. Time to bring you up to date on the boys and what's happening over here.

First, the boys are getting big but haven't gained the grace that comes with maturity. HEE HEE. Knuckles especially hasn't learned to jump into HH's lap with any sort of grace. Rather, he takes a flying leap and usually crashes into her face or neck. With time, we're hoping he'll become more coordinated. Unfortunately, I can't really teach the boy anything in that regard. I was hopelessly clumsy myself.

Bugsy is doing well... He doesn't seem to realize that he's growing. He still tries to squeeze into the small circle of the scratching tower or the little box the plumber left in the kitchen. He just sort of spills over the sides and pretends he doesn't notice.

Okay, so I don't fit like I used to.... but I still fit!

Well, that's a little update. I hope we have more time in the next few days to visit. HH is planning a giveaway soon.. so watch for that.

Easy Like Sunday...

Hee Hee... bunk beds, almost.

There's no end to the napping pictures of the boys. It seems that HH just can't resist taking a picture of them while they are looking so sweet in slumber. But before we get to our Easy-Like_Sunday naps... give a purr or two for Ginger Jasper. You can see an update on how Ginger Jasper is doing... a little eating yesterday...yay. Knuickles Strikes Again...

Look at this sweet boy... Yes, it's Knuckles in all his innocence, but is he...?



Someone (not naming names, but probably the fella featured in the picture above) made HH resort to this...


We thought our high altitude spaces were safe when HH gave the china cabinet away. But, last night after bedtime, a noise in the kitchen coaxed HH out of bed to discover this cabinet wide open with some of the stuff on the floor with a very guilty Knuckles beside it and a happy-he-didn't-do it Bugsy sitting in the hallway chuckling.

Just saying that we got a ways to go before Knuckles gives up his flying cat routine.

I know I've said it before, but these kitties crack me up... and they are working hard to help HH exercise her creativity in decorating. After all, who wouldn't want the look of silver duct tape on the cupboards... HEE HEE
