So, how you doin' on those New Year's Resolutions?
Usually by the middle or end of January, those who are gonna slip on their resolutions are ready to throw in the towel. That's how it works for the beans as far as I can tell...
Now, in the dog and the cat world, it's a little different. Our beans make resolutions for us that we can't keep. I mean, we are animals after all. Here's an example.
You know about the Great Food Experiment of 2011, don't you? Well in case you don't... here's a recap...
When Bugsy and Knuckles first came to live with HH, they were just little guys. HH was feeding them kitten food a couple times a day, and all was going well. But, soon enough they seemed to be awfully interested in their food.

| Bugsy and Knuckles on Gotcha Day... Tiny, right? |
Well.. it didn't work. Oh, Knuckles did well enough.., but Bugsy loved to knock the thing around and eat and eat and eat....
Long story short. HH had to resume portion control feedings with them. So, Bugsy's New Year's resolution is to lose weight and to stay at his optimum weight.
To that end, HH is feeding them in two dishes, so Knuckles will have his own portion. Otherwise, Bugsy would eat it all and Knuckles is so polite, he would let him.
As it is, Knuckles always does save some food for Bugsy.... It's a brother thing? Am I right? As a result, Bugsy gets bigger and Knuckles gets smaller.
So... HH heard about this cat door (it's called Sure Flap) the other day and she's thinking of getting one. It seems that it operates by microchip. In other words, the bean programs it to recognize the chip of each specific pet. So, essentially you could use it in the door that goes to the outside to keep the varmints out of the house as it'll only open when approached by a pet with the right chip in it.

Or... here's the idea with Bugsy and Knuckles, for WEIGHT CONTROL... HH could use it on an inside door (say maybe the door between the office and the bathroom) and program it only for Knuckles' chip. At feeding time, she'd put Knuckles' food in the bathroom and close the door.
Bugsy (hee, hee, hee) wouldn't be able to get to it, cause his chip wouldn't open the door..What a brilliant concept!!!
Pretty cool huh? We're thinking of giving it a try? Now, Bugsy doesn't think it's such a great idea, but the rest of us do.... We'll let you know if we try it out...
If you want to read more about it, you can go here ... Sure Flap. They have all the details.
Anyway... that's how we've done on our resolutions... How about you?
Have a great day...
love, Max

We wonder if this could work for Simba and Audrey. We hate to have to modify a door to install it just to fid out, but in theory it could solve the feeding problems around here. IF Simba weren't to be reluctant to go through it unless really hungry.. If you do it,please report again on how it goes.
I am Mom's first kitty that doesn't self regulate my food - I'd eat everything in my dish. Now she has to measure my food and dole it out during the day,
That sounds like a really cool idea. Three of us inhale our food in about 15 seconds and then have to wait until the next mealtime. Phantom is not a good eater and would benefit from a bowl on the floor all the time. YOur plan sounds like a good one - we are curious to see how it works out.
Woos - Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
We have a kitty here that needs to be regulated too but it is hard to do with all the other cats. She eats everyone's food if they don't eat fast enough.
The cat flap looks like a great idea. I would love that but it would cost me a fortune to get 16 cats a chip to open the door and I am sure some of them would be too scared to go through it. But it does look like a great idea.
Nicki's the fast eater in our house, but he usually doesn't eat it all. We get fed out of different dishes anyway, and because Derry's slower eating the canned, he gets fed in Annie's old spot at the top of the basement steps, while Nicki gets his in the kitchen area. Derry seldom eats wet from Nick's food station, but Nicki always will eat leftover food from Derry's.
So good luck if you get that cat flap, we'll be interested in reading whether it works for you!
That door thingy could sure stir up troublr! My resoultion was to not make any resolutions, and so far so good!
Good luck on your resolutions.......our mama never makes them anymore. She said she learned years ago that the only reason they were made was to break them.......:) YAY, for us kitties cuz that means we don't have any either!!!!!!! And Sammy is really happy that his food isn't being regulated, although it should be.
xxxxxxxxx
I never thought a kitty could self regulate! Well done. Our cats just ate and ate until they were rolly polly. Now, I feed Onyx twice a day because he would do the same. Well done with a plan to keep the kitties apart!
That would be good for Hannah as she is on steroids and so eats everything in sight! Lucy eats like a little piggy too but she doesn't seem to get any bigger!
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
BaaaaaWaaaah that door idea really sounds funny to me. What if one of the Peeps needs to potty.. would they need to be Chipped in order to get in??? BaaaaaWaaaah THAT is a hysterical thingy to think about.
Hey do you have dates fur the Valentine's Day Pawty and Dance?? I hope so.
I see stars in Bugsy's future when he tries to go through that door!

That sure flap sounds like a great idea! I don't think Bugsy would be too happy though. LOL!
I has my very own New Year REVOLUTION.....Don't mess wit my food!
Well it sounds good. One of my resolutions was finding an imperfection, but alas I have none...
OMC Bugsy is a foodie for sure.
The concept behind the sure flap sounds unflappable (pun intended) but Bugsy is a smart cat...I wonder how long before he'll figure it out?
Hugs Madi
Mommy is wondering how to install 13 doors in our house--we have fatties and skinnies!
Before my Brudder Cap'n Ripley went to the Bridge, my mom had the awfulest time trying to figure out how to feed him and Sisfur Abby. Cuz Cap'n Ripley LUVED to eat, eat, eat and Sisfur Abby would just take her time. She never really did figure it out. But this sounds like a super good idea. I can't wait to see how it works out!
Wiggles & Wags!

My human was looking into that too, because Binga always tries to steal my food and I don't eat enough as it is. But instead she is going to get a large cage for me to eat in to keep us separate, like my own dining suite. If that seems to work out, then she'll consider the extra-added expense of a microchip door (the ones that aren't microchip got bad reviews).
That sounds like a good idea for feeding time for you boys! We just have food out all the time unless our sisfur Sadie eats it which the pet sitter let her do. We don't like that sitter!
OMG!!!! Babies!
Mom made quilting resolutions and is sticking to them, but it is only January! as the year gets older, she may not be so good!
We like the idea about the door! Keep us posted!
Well that sounds like a good way to handle the eating situation. Let us know if you do it and it works!
We don't make any resolutions...so there's nothing to break!
It'll work but do get ready for an earful from Bugsy!
There might be repercussions!!! Will be interesting to see the result!
That looks pretty fun. My hooman friends open the door for me. :)
Very cool! Do you think I would fit through one of those?
How clever! what will they come up with next? My boys are big. Peanut is overweight but vet said Marshmallow is just a very big cat.
Great idea. Techy stuff has come a long way even for pets. Will be waiting for results if you try it.
xoxo Kassey
I LOVE it! You guys are..here it comes..get ready for it..the cat's meow!
Whoa, theese is quite an idea that HH came up with! I wonder if I could gets one of theese flaps for my Secret Research Laboratory...
if you get one I can't wait to hear how it works! I have featured it but can't use it in our condo...I think it looks great!
