Max on ...It's Red-Carpet Week.... Here's the Scoop

This is gonna be a big week, pals. You know that the Academy Awards are next weekend. Well there are all sorts of festivities going on surrounding this big event. I'm just giving you a heads up so you'll be ready to participate in all of them.

First there is the #RedCarpetCatTwitter party. It's hosted by Event Barkers and is on February 22, 2012 from5:30 to 7:00 pm, Pacific time. You know who will be there? Do you? This is big. ...Jackson Galaxy,for My Cat From Hell TV show will be there, that's who. Treats, Treats, Everywhere

Good morning, pals.....

It's Friday and I have the honor of announcing TGIF...

Knuckles and I have been very active and we taught HH yet another lesson this week...

I guess you could say we were naughty, but is it really naughty when you get in trouble for something and it's the first time you've heard that what you did was not allowed? I'm just saying that if we'd known what we did was against the rules, we would never have done it. Right Knuckles? Knuckles....? KNUCKLES !!!?... Where are ya pal..? A little back up here would be nice.

Anyway, HH said that we had to tell you what we did. So here goes... So the other day, HH gave us each a treat and that was the end of the treats in the treat jar... So she took out a new package of treats and filled the jar, set it on the counter where she always puts it and left to run some errands..

When she came back, she found the treat jar on the floor broken and all the treats were missing. Now, she thinks we ate them all... but... we don't remember doing that. Right Knuckles? Knuckles...? KNUCKLES...?

Anyway.... we are sorta on treat restriction over here. HH has learned to hide the treats from us, so if you could slip us a few, we'd be every so grateful.

Pillars of Strength - A Special Day for K

Happy Valentine's Day everybuddy. Today we are joining others in blogging for K and KB as their Pillars of Strength

K is a very special dog belonging to KB, a blogger who does amazing work chronicling her life in the Rocky Mountains. KB posts videos and pictures of bears, mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, elk, etc., etc., and some of the most amazing mountain views we have ever had the pleasure of seeing. If you have never found her blog, we strongly recommend going - http://romp-roll-rockies.blogspot.com/ . The photography is so beautiful. It'll take your breath away. I mean it, be prepared you just might stop breathing for a minute or two when you look at some of those mountain scenes. And, The pictures of the dogs are beautiful too..

If you read only a few of her blog posts, you will quickly discover that her heart dog is K, a faithful canine companion on all of her adventures. Unfortunately, K is facing some very challenging health issues and has her next round of chemotherapy on Friday, February 17. Any of you who are animal lovers and have faced the same situation know what a difficult time this is for KB. So we're blogging for K and KB on Valentine's Day to be their Pillars of Strength as they go through this time and want you to join us. Let's all send purrrs and woofs of strength to K....

Max on... Pelican

HH went to have breakfast with Uncle Jim at Grill's at Port Canaveral and looky-look what she brought home. No, no such luck, ...she didn't actually bring the pelican home. But there were a bunch of them out on the boats in front of the restaurant, so she brought home this picture of one and lots more pictures too... Some of them flying, but I'll save those for some other time.

Anyway, she said that this guy is much bigger than Bugsy or Knuckles and maybe bigger than both of them put together ... When they take off, they do look a little bottom heavy, but after a little umpity- upmpties... they make it.... Anyway, just thought you might like to see Mr. Pelican's cousin up close and personal.

It's Valentine's Eve today... are you ready for all the hearts that'll be floating around cyberspace tomorrow..? Time to get ready.

I just noticed that Sparkle and Zoolatry have Heart as the photo hunt word. We can work with that. We have lots of hearts over here, cuz HH drew them for Valentine's Day. Here are a couple of them:

This and That on Friday

Bugsy and Knuckles love playing with the toys that Kjelle Bus sent them. Bubsy's favorite is the bumble bee and Knuckles likes the mouse the best. Well, as you can see, they are the perfect size to stash somewhere, but the boys forgot where they put them. Yesterday, HH needed the yardstick from the closet and there they were. The boys went nuts as if they were brand new toys. Today, they are missing again, but I guess HH will find them again someday soon.

So, Mr. Pelican is reporting in on the condition of the cord to the phone charger. He has guarded it well and Bugsy has not chewed on it since Mr. Pelican was assigned to guard duty. Good Job, Mr. Pelican.

Thanks to everybody for the cat tree suggestions yesterday. Next, we do the research on all the ones that you mentioned...

Max... with a question for you...

Okay, pals... this is absolutely top secret. The boys don't know anything about it, but HH and I think the boys are old enough now to gain a little altitude in the condo.

If you followed us when HH first brought the boys home, you know they were climbers ... big time climbers. In fact, HH, if you remember, had to give away the china cabinet because Knuckles kept climbing to the top of it and dive-bombing people. She couldn't convince him not to do it ... he was just a baby, after all.

So, anyway, the secret is that HH is starting to look at cat trees for the boys. So, I told her I would help her do the research by asking all of you if you have a tree you really like and what it's called and where you got it. ...... We thank you on thankful Thursday for your help.

The boys were just getting ready to send their Valentine to Robert, the beautiful cat they sponsor at the Humane Society of South Brevard. It struck us that we hadn't talked about sponsoring cats in a while.

On Halloween, if you remember, the boys earned the money to sponsor Robert. Here's Robert...

He lives at the Humane Society of South Brevard and seems very happy there. People can sponsor cats there and I bet at all Humane Societies and at all SPCA shelters. They do find that for one reason or another some cats just don't get picked for adoption. For those cats, they could sure use the help in financing their stay.

It's wonderful when shelters adopt the policy of being a no-kill shelter. They could all use some help in taking care of the pets they promised to protect.

And that's the way it is!

Book Review... The Rules: A Guide for People Owned by Cats

I might be behind the times, but I must say I have not done as much reading lately as I was a while back. That changed yesterday. We were lounging around yesterday getting our easy on and HH found this book we hadn't heard of. It's called The Rules: A Guide for People Owned by Cats. The author's name is Max, just like mine, but his name is Max Thompson. And another similarity is that he has a blog too. Some of my pals are following him too.

Anyway, she saw that book while she was on line and she downloaded it to her Kindle... a bargain at 99 cents. And it came really fast, so the boys sat at her feet and she started reading it to all of us. The points Max T made were really right on the money. Like the part about not feeding us so much dry food and feeding us straight from the other animals... and that every cat should have a tower .... and that we should have all the toys we want... You catch my drift here. Max T got it all right.

Pretty soon, HH was chuckling... then she started laughing out loud. We all hope that means that she's taking Max T's advice to heart. The boys will know if she does, cuz she should start giving them more stinky goodness than they get now and she should ease up on some of the rules around the condo, like waking her up in the middle of the night should be just fine with her if she takes what Max T wrote to heart. We'll see.

Anyway, I'm recommending this book to you, cuz, even if your bean doesn't take it to heart, it'll make her/him laugh. And there's nothing wrong with our beans being in a good mood. Right?

It's Sunday.... Have an Easy One...

You know, you'd think that after the early rise yesterday, the boys would be ready to sleep in... Not these guys. At the moment. it's 5:22 AM and we've been up for over an hour. Knuckles is sitting on top of the computer unit and giving HH The Stare... you know the one. It's the unblinking-time-to-feed-me-or-else stare. Bugsy is sitting on the desk waiting semi-patiently.

Now, this plea for breakfast seems oh so urgent right now, but you know what? As soon as HH feeds them, they'll head right back to bed and sleep most of the day. Meanwhile.... she's getting sleepy from being up too early. Today.... yes... it's in the stars. We will be observing... Easy Like Sunday.

The boys are full of it this morning. Got HH up at 4:00am... Cracked me up... Knuckles bounded across the bed... lunging at Bugsy. In the process, he landed square of HH's tummy... She WAS sound asleep... I think she'll be sleeping curled up in a little ball for a while.

Anyway, Saturday fun started early over here. Hope you have a great day... it's gonna be interesting.

TGIF.... Yep... The Weekend is Here!!!

Okay, Pals! Knuckles here... It's Firday. What a wonderful thing!

HH has had a week. She's been home each night, but since she's self-employed, she is usually home most of the daytime too. Not this week.

We're not sure all what she's been doing, but she has not been here. Usually, we sit and watch her work and she stops to play with us a couple of times ... but this week. she has been out. We did get some good play in during the evenings, but we like all day access to her much better. So, HH if you're reading this... Cut it out!

Does your bean work from home? If so, do you help? I mean like Bugsy for instance. He helps because he's a paperweight. His job is to keep all the papers from falling on the floor. Me, HH says I'm comic relief. I don't know what that means, but that's what HH calls me and she's always smiling when she says it, so I must be good at it...

Well... that's how it works here anyway. So, usually our weekdays are fine, cuz HH is here working, but weekends are still the best. So we're always glad to say it's Friday...

Cats and Hearts...

And, I missed Tooona Tuesday by two days. I really hate missing Tooona Tuesday. I gotta get myself a calendar... Maybe I've been working too hard on my book...

Max on ... New Year's Resolutions... How You Doin'?

So, how you doin' on those New Year's Resolutions?

Usually by the middle or end ofJanuary, those who are gonna slip on their resolutions are ready to throw inthe towel. That's how it works for the beans as far as I can tell...

Now, in the dog and the cat world, it's a little different. Our beansmake resolutions for us that we can't keep. I mean, we are animals afterall. Here's an example.

You know about the Great Food Experiment of 2011, don't you? Well incase you don't... here's a recap...

When Bugsy and Knuckles first came to live with HH, they were just littleguys. HH was feeding them kitten food acouple times a day, and all was going well. But, soon enough they seemed to beawfully interested in their food.

Bugsy and Knuckles on Gotcha Day... Tiny, right?

Now, in the old days, I was known for my interest in food too, and HH wantedto make sure that the boys didn't start to obsess about it too. So, someonetold her that it was better to not draw attention to their eating habits and tojust put a few days worth of food in a gravity feeder. The theory was that theboys would regulate themselves.

Well.. it didn't work. Oh, Knuckles didwell enough.., but Bugsy loved to knock the thing around and eat and eat andeat....

Long story short. HH had to resume portion control feedings with them. So, Bugsy's New Year's resolution is to lose weight and to stay at his optimumweight.

To that end, HH is feeding them in two dishes, so Knuckles will havehis own portion. Otherwise, Bugsy would eat it all and Knuckles is so polite,he would let him.

As it is, Knuckles always does save some food for Bugsy.... It's a brotherthing? Am I right? As a result, Bugsy gets bigger and Knuckles getssmaller.

So... HH heard about this cat door (it's called Sure Flap) the other day and she's thinking of gettingone. It seems that it operates by microchip. In other words, thebean programs it to recognize the chip of each specific pet. So, essentially youcould use it in the door that goes to the outside to keep the varmints out ofthe house as it'll only open when approached by a pet with the right chip init.

Or... here's the idea with Bugsy andKnuckles, for WEIGHT CONTROL... HH could use it on an inside door (say maybe the door between the office and the bathroom) and programit only for Knuckles' chip. At feeding time, she'd put Knuckles' food inthe bathroom and close the door.

Bugsy (hee, hee, hee) wouldn't be ableto get to it, cause his chip wouldn't open the door..What a brilliantconcept!!!

Pretty cool huh? We're thinking of giving it a try? Now, Bugsydoesn't think it's such a great idea, but the rest of us do.... We'll let you know if we try it out...

Max on.... preparing for a cruise...

I am so excited. I mean: EXCITED!!!

HH is in the process of making a new Flat Max today. (You might remember that the old version of me as Flat Max got a little spotted and warped when Toni and Mike took me to Niagra Falls -- the mist got me)

Anyway, Toni told HH last Tuesday that they would like me.... Flat ol' Max... to go on a cruise with them in February. HH gave permission and now is in the process of not only making a new Flat Max but making some other Flat Max items, such as a raincoat, so I don't get warped and misted again and maybe some snorkling gear... Don't know if Toni and Mike snorkle, but I want to be ready.

Anyhooooo... just wanted to tell you the big news... As you can see... I'm resting up for the trip.
